The Associate Process Engineer will be an important member of the team to lead the team of Field Technicians in optimization of filed equipment. Must have a command of flow dynamics, pumps and water operating systems along with clear communication skills to troubleshoot on the fly over the phone.
The position will report to the Engineering Manager and work at the corporate plant Monday – Friday during the day with on-call availability for phone calls outside of business hours on occasion. Travel is possible but will be very limited and will be regional.
Support will include: analysis of different process configurations, mass and energy balances, optimization, preparation of PFD's and P&ID's, technology packages, basis of design documentation, process design packages, equipment specifications, capital and operating costs estimates, risk analysis and SOP's.
The successful candidate will be comfortable both mentoring and “doing”. A hands-on approach and willingness/ability to work the details are considered key to successfully delivering on the expectations for this role.
Must be able to work in a diverse environment - working closely with customer, engineers, contractors, scientists, consultants and management to solve problems, improve the technology platform, and further the business objectives and optimization.
The ideal candidate will have a background in process engineering for projects in one of the following: chemical processing, water/waste water treatment, beverage manufacturing, or biologicals.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Active support of all field process technicians and equipment.
  • Provide technical support in solving issues in an integrated cross-functional team environment.
  • Analyzing process configurations, unit operations, scale-up, equipment designs and optimization.
  • Provide process design guidance and technical input for the following unit operations: biomass processing and handling, gasification, heat transfer, filtration, boilers, evaporation, effluent treatment systems, utilities.
  • Works closely with Engineering Manager, Project Manager and other key stakeholders to ensure projects are executed on time and within budget.
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with colleagues, consultants, and key stakeholders to ensure projects run smoothly and to resolve concerns promptly and efficiently.
  • Researches and sources new systems and resources, analyzes processes, procedures and working practices to identify and implement changes to increase efficiency, productivity and overall profitability. Maintains familiarity with current techniques and developments to sustain and improve technical skills.
  • Evaluate technical requirements, research the necessary data and determine cost effective materials of construction.
  • Ability to innovate in both the technology development and operations areas.

  • 3 years experience in Process engineering experience in a chemical plant/project environment.
  • BS Degree in Engineering (Chemical, Process or comparable)
  • Project and design experience with equipment and instrumentation

  • Sincere commitment to safety
  • Strong organizational skills along with the ability to handle a fast-paced environment.
  • Works with little supervision
  • Able to develop scopes for small to medium projects and solutions for complicated problems.
  • Working knowledge of Project Management Processes.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to coach/mentor other field technicians
  • Good computer skills (ASPEN Plus, MS office, Excel, etc.…)
