Instrumentation & Controls Engineer
 
Apex Systems is a large staffing and consulting firm and we are looking for an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer with hands on experience experience in both designing and implementing large electrical systems (heavy machinery) and very good communication skills place at our client, an energy services company.
Client: Energy services company with operational assets worldwide
Terms: Permanent Role. Full time.

Key Qualifications:
  • At least 7 and ideally 10+ years of experience.
  • Bachelors in Electrical/Electronic or Control Systems.
  • Must have active P.Eng or ability or obtain quickly
  • Strong background in the design of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Broad application knowledge of PLC, industrial HMI, SCADA and closed loop control systems.
  • Proficient in various PLC systems and programming languages (Siemens, Allen Bradley & Omron)
  •  Experience with Variable Frequency Drives (Control Techniques, Siemens, Allen Bradley & Omron).
  • Familiarity with a broad range of process control instrumentation (proximity, ultrasonic, encoders, scanners, etc.)
  • Experience in electrical design software such as ePlan, AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, etc.
  • Well acquainted with CSA/NEC and other electrical standards.
  • Well acquainted with functional safety and various safety standards & procedures (ECP, LOTO, Risk Assessment, OSHA, OHSA, safety PLC, safety components, etc.)
  • Ability to read and understand P&IDs and control descriptions.
  • Ability to generate control system architecture based on mechanical and process requirements (Control narative, flow charts, IO list, interlocks, E-Stop, stafey zones, operator interface, networking, schematics, etc.)
  • Familiarity with power distribution system planning and design (Single lines, load calculations, grounding, arc flash, short circuit, cable sizing/routing, cable schedules, etc.)
  • Knowledge of electrical equipment installation design such as equipment layout, cable trays and instrumentation mounting.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite including MS Excel and MS Project.
  • General knowledge of IoT platforms (Mojix ViZix™, ThingWorks, ThingsBoard, Kaa, etc.)
  • Familiarity with RFID and/or bar coding traceability applications. Familiar with AIDC systems.
  • Familiarity with database applications based on SQL, NoSQL, cloud based, etc
  • Familiarity with various communication interfaces (TCP/IP, Serial, OPC and ODBC).
  • Familiarity with distributed client/server SCADA and MES systems.
    General
  • Excellent process analysis and problem identification skills.
  • Excellent project execution, planning, cost estimation and organisational skills.
  • Ability to prepare scope of work, specifications and RFQs.
  • Ability to plan and execute FAT, installation, commissioning and testing of new equipment and processes.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills (Reports, operating procedures, training, presentations, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate and work with diverse groups of people.
  • Ability to travel 25% (USA)
