Manufacturing - Supply Chain
Primary Location: Melville, NY
Type: Permanent/Direct Hire
Travel: Yes, 5 % of the Time
The Project Engineer collaborates with all departments in the implementation of the Supply Chain capital strategies. This position requires an engineering background with an emphasis on equipment related to consumer goods manufacturing. Ideal candidates have experience in managing capital projects related to chemical manufacturing equipment, equipment cleaning systems, and product conveying systems.
  • Assist Engineering Management in developing capital project plans which includes: budgets, schedule, scope deliverable, plant procedures, equipment SOP’s, and employee training.
  • Work with the local project team to plan, coordinate, and oversee the implementation of the approved project. Tasks include:
    • establish standardized specifications for equipment purchasing and factory acceptance testing.
    • develop project outlines, budget estimates and cost justifications, necessary for project approval.
    • develop an effective communication strategy to all project stakeholders i.e. project meetings, email communications, etc..
    • work with equipment suppliers to develop equipment drawings, create equipment layouts and any necessary schematics required for proper equipment installation.
    • selection and purchase of appropriate equipment, and supplies for the project
    • solicitation of outside vendor's bids and provide recommendations for project execution
    • coordinate and supervise the activities of outside contractors and/or in-house labor throughout project execution to assure the project completes within budgeted time and funding.
  • Ensure all projects are designed and installed according to applicable federal, state and local codes, ordinances and conditions; all insurance rules and recommendations; and all corporate policies and procedures.
  • Investigate new materials and fabrication procedures, equipment and technology.

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical, or chemical engineering from an accredited school.
  • Proficient in Microsoft OS, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD desirable.
  • Knowledge of process piping system design and machine control systems preferred
  • Knowledge of cGMP and/or FDA requirements are preferred.
  • Knowledge of PLC’s and programming a plus but not required
  • Knowledge of safe design features for machinery equipment
  • Project management skills required. Project management certification not mandatory but is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and writing skills required.
  • Experience in managing capital projects, creating purchase orders, and contract documents
  • 5-7 years experience
