APEX Systems is looking for a Systems Administrator for a national food distributor. 
This is a unique position within the Mainframe Production Control team.  Applying candidates must have a UNIX operating system background versus mainframe. The high-level qualifications are listed below.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Software Component Packaging and Deployment
  • Assembly and staging of Production Control maintained components:  Jobs, Scheduling Procs, control cards, etc.
  • Promotion and Deployment of all component packages, including programs, related panels, jobs, etc., covering all phases from initial addition of new components , maintenance of UAT levels, thru the removal of retired components
  • Maintain assignments in the PILOT environments (online, batch and project), including post-deployment activities
  • Resolve issues with packaging, including component location and availability, user issues, and movement failures
  • Enforce Standards for jobs and other components
  • Maintain component Libraries and related support jobs

Job Automation
  • Maintenance of Jobs, Scheduling Procs, control cards, etc.
  • Setup and maintenance of data transfer jobs
  • Identification & Implementation of routine scheduling solutions
  • Implementation of application-specified scheduling solutions
  • Technical Design of complex scheduling solutions
  • Troubleshooting complex scheduling issues
  • Review and determine optimization of existing automation components
  • Monitor defined components for adherence to appropriate standards

Third-Party Software Product Support
  • Product Maintenance tasks (upgrades (installing, testing and implementing), patches/fixes, troubleshooting, and environmental maintenance)
  • Product Administration tasks (Security setup, Cross-platform Agent maintenance, parameter updates including topology and external tracking, package type definitions, etc.)
  • Secondary User Support and Training (primary training via user peers); initial training for newly acquired tools or major changes due to upgrade; assistance regarding tool usage

Operational Support
  • 24/7 On-call Support
  • Provide assistance for resolution of production issues escalated from L1/L2 Operations.
  • Provide extensive technical support to other IT departments and user organization on relevant technical issues
  • Significantly participate in restoration of services after extended system outages.
  • Manage and support environmental system components, blocktime environmental  schedules, blocktime application backup schedules (SQB), and Disaster Recovery components
  • Root Cause Analysis of recurring issues and identification of solution
  • Participation in and Monitoring of all projects that will impact the mainframe production environments

Customized User Solutions
  • Developing customized reports (SOX, ESP, CA7, CCS,  etc.)
  • Develop and maintain unique support functions using CLIST, REXX and SAS

Professional/Transitional Support Services
  • Perform appropriate standardization tasks in order to on-board new business, or transition departing business
  • Implement and maintain unique Support requirements
  • History and Reporting

  • SOX reports and audits
  • Other support reports

Division Standardization Projects
  • Setup of all division specific libraries for full life cycle (test through production and backout), along with inclusion into backup jobs
  • Setup division specific user ids into CA7
  • Setup of all Job components, including control cards
  • Updates to appropriate CLISTS/ISPF (PB, RLOAD, etc.)
  • Setup of all new job schedule definitions, and integration as needed to existing schedules
  • Creation of production file system, including GDG bases and VSAM file definitions
  • Setup of all division specific package definitions for change control
  • Setup of division specific mirrored backup process
  • Testing at all phases
  • Cutover and post-implementation Support

UAT Environments, with project-specific customizations
  • Creation and Removal of scheduling components, jobs and related members, necessary file system and any unique setup
  • On-going retrofit of related production changes
  • As needed, support and participate in special project testing

Customer Services Training (CST) Environment Maintenance
  • Build and maintain Customer Service UAT online training environment for existing and newly hired employees.
