The performance engineering team provides enterprise wide performance testing to measure non-functional requirements of applications including, but not limited to, application response times, error rates, throughput and resiliency testing. The application performance architect must have advanced knowledge of performance testing tools such as Microfocus (HP) Loadrunner, IBM Rational Performance Tester or Neoload with a preference on open source tools such as Jmeter, Locust, and Selenium. The Application performance architect should have an extensive background with an application language such as Java, Python or .net framework languages. In addition, the application performance architect should be familiar with DevOps tools such as Git, Jenkins, Udeploy, and Ansible. The architect must partner with product vendors, applications teams, and other support teams to resolve issues and achieve organizational goals.


  • Work with development and performance leaderships to define performance testing strategy
  • Identify gaps in team member skillsets and highlight training opportunities
  • Build and present performance testing roadmap
  • Define and knowledge transfer optimal performance test script writing
  • Define performance testing key performance indicators and measurement tools
  • Evaluate open-source performance testing tools and provide guidance on leveraging such tools in enterprise environment
  • Interpret infrastructure key performance indicators
  • Diagnose the cause for failed performance tests and lower occurrence rate
  • Develop an agile / DevOps strategy for developers to self-service performance test (shift-left)
  • Develop reports and present to leadership on progress in performance test strategy
  • Participate on calls or chat relating to performance strategy
  • Strong knowledge in testing Mainframe and Big data systems
  • Expert with performance tuning Java applications and major Database Management Systems
  • Knowledgeable in performance testing software as a service (Saas) systems
  • Lead Proof of Concepts (POCs) including working with application teams, consultant firms, and product vendors
  • Provide knowledge transfer to team members
  • Experience with software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodology
  • Familiar with health Insurance industry and regulatory requirements
  • Partner with application development and production support leaders
  • Engage in capacity planning discussions, forecasts, solutions


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
  • At least eight, typically ten or more years of solid, diverse work experience in IT with a minimum of six years of experience application program development, or the equivalent in education and work experience.
