Associate Scientist, Upstream Process Development, Gene Therapy, 1022250 
Job Scope & Purpose:
Our Cambridge biotech partner who is making significant strides developing novel gene therapy drugs for patients in need is seeking a strong process development associate scientist to join their growing team. The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the development, scale-up, and PD manufacturing activities for our rare disease and oncology pipelines. Primary Job Responsibilities:
  • Supporting studies to characterize the suspension lentiviral vector process
  • Maintaining a seed train of mammalian cells including thawing and passaging cells in shake flasks and a rocking bioreactor
  • Performing general laboratory tasks, including maintenance/calibration of equipment such as the Vicell, Metaflex and Bioprofile FLEX II
  • optimizing and facilitating suspension bioreactor processes, including transient transfection
  • Reliable record keeping including batch records, electronic notebooks, etc
  • Opportunity to work on bench scale and larger pilot scale (50, 200 L) bioreactor systems
  • Collaborating closely with process development and analytics teams to develop clinical phase viral vector processes. 

Primary Job Requirements: 
  • MS and 0-2 years of directly related experience or BS/BA and 1-3 years of directly related experience.
  • Understanding of process development and pharmaceutical manufacturing for biologics, including cell culture (upstream) and purification (downstream) operations.
  • Familiarity with Unicorn/AKTA systems preferred.
  • The familiarity of analytical methods for biologics or vaccine development preferred.
  • Experience in statistical analysis using JMP or Minitab preferred
  • Strong organizational skills. Familiarity with the 5S methodology is a plus.
  • Experience in working with outside vendors.
  • Knowledge of cGMP/ICH/FDA regulations.
