Position Description:
The Controls Engineer will provide engineering support for facility building management/controls issues; primarily design of the HVAC mechanical system controls and building management system (BMS) modifications. This position will be responsible for developing construction documents for new, and modifications to the existing BMS systems to support facilities infrastructure including HVAC equipment and Toxic Gas Monitoring Systems (TGMS) within the facility. Additionally, the position will include supporting the design of mechanical HVAC systems.
  • Design and layout of building management/control systems in accordance with acceptable engineering and industry practice. 
  • Development of control system drawings, P&IDs, I/O lists, and narratives/sequences for HVAC control systems.
  • Supports and contributes updates to design narrative, specifications, as-built and system documents.
  • Supports O&M operational facility issues with investigation and troubleshooting.
  • Provides HVAC design solutions within the respective discipline while supporting the creation of bond and construction drawings for the discipline.
  • Timely completion of projects per established workflow schedules.
  • Attends weekly team meetings to coordinate interdisciplinary design issues.

Required Skills:
Must haves:
  • 2-3+ years of experience as a controls engineer in a large facilities-based environment. Lab environment is preferred but not required. 
  • At least 1-3 years of building systems controls design experience
  • Building management control systems drawings
  • P&IDs (piping and instrumentation diagrams/drawings)
  • BMS (building management system) modifications/drawings. equipment selection, panels, and narratives/sequences
  • A mechanical background to at least understand how equipment works
  • Schneider systems is currently being used, but experience with Johnson Controls systems or Siemens Building Automation systems is fine
  • Process and instrumentation diagrams (all HVAC) - will design instrumentation, sensors, and controls around HVAC building automation systems
  • PLC-based panel diagram exp
  • Point-to-point wiring experience

Desired Skills (not required but candidate will have exposure to these skills in this role):
  • Familiarity with Schneider building management systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Revit software.
  • EIT or PE Registration preferred/desirable or shall work toward license and confirm to completion.
  • Familiarity with applicable building codes (ASHRAE, IBC, UFC and Massachusetts) 
  • Support of mechanical system design.  
  • Ability to size and specify HVAC equipment
