Apex Systems has an Direct Hire opportunity for a Development Chemist.  This client is a leader in the adhesives and coatings industry and is located towards the Reading area. Ideal candidate will have 1-2 years' of industry experience, bu recent graduates will be considered. 

Requirements:

  • Degree in chemistry, polymer science, chemical engineering, or a related field.  Non-degreed individuals should have a demonstrated record of related technical achievements.
  •  3+ years of experience working in product development in the adhesive and allied fields.
  • Strong practical approach to formulating, both guided and self-directed.
  • Knowledge of organic/polymer science and technology.
  • Strong practical approach to formulating.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to contribute effectively as a member of a team.
  • Knowledge of thermoset chemistry and adhesive design.
  • ISO 9000 and other quality systems,
  • Domestic and global regulatory requirements including GHS/CLP, and
  • Experimental design and statistical data analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with Research and Development Manager and utilizing the client system, carry out and document assigned development and technical service projects.
  • Through an understanding of market and customer needs, and working with both the Research and Development Manager and Sales and Marketing team to assist in the proposal, planning, execution, and verification of new development projects and products to a successful commercial conclusion.
  • Use various statistical tools (e.g. DOE and JMP) to design experiments and analyze the results.
  • Working with the Research and Development Manager and Quality Manager, identify and test new raw materials that offer performance or cost advantages.
  • Assist with customer meetings to gain a clear understanding of their needs or problems and translate this knowledge into high-quality R&D projects.
  • Follow all Corporate Quality, Safety, Health, and Environmental Policies
