Provide subject matter expertise to medium/large projects/initiatives as they relate to the design, implementation and support of major infrastructure technology in a multi platform environment.



  • Provide technical leadership, standards and best practices to infrastructure teams during infrastructure design and build phases of initiatives/projects.
  • Determine standards and roadmaps for hardware  and software . Decide how infrastructure is built and recommends infrastructure standards for organization wide initiatives based on area of expertise.
  • Conduct major studies regarding system usage, makes recommendations for improvements, and determines infrastructure system requirements.
  • Design, develop and test emerging hardware and infrastructure software solutions.



Subject Matter Expertise:

  • Technical Troubleshooting--Knowledge of approaches, tools and techniques for anticipating, recognizing, and resolving technical (hardware, software, application or operational) problems.

  • Written Communications--Ability to produce a variety of business documents that demonstrate command of language, clarity of thought and orderliness of presentation.
  • Systems Software Infrastructure--Knowledge of the existing and planned software technology and the global, regional and local software architecture and infrastructure components.

  • Oral Communications--Ability to express oneself and communicate with others verbally; recognizing that verbal communication is more than just language - it includes tone, style and structure.

  • Hardware Infrastructure--Familiarity with hardware technology and the global, regional and local hardware architecture.

  • Computer Operations--Knowledge of the data center operating environment and day-to-day operational requirements.
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking--Knowledge of tools and techniques for effective use of a broad range of factors, assumptions, frameworks and perspectives when solving problems.


Ability to demonstrate a superior insight and skills adeptness on a specialized network technology such as (but not limited to):

•  Primary focus on High Availability Network Platforms (Cisco, Juniper) IP Routing/Switching (and Services, Applications) Cisco CSSs, SANs, Wireless, VoIP services and infrastructure.

•  IP Multicasting, Load Sharing, HSRP, VPNs, QoS

•  All Protocols relating to current LAN, MAN, WAN technologies

•  Ability to demonstrate extensive knowledge of multi-vendor network hardware and software telecommunications products.

•  Demonstrate excellent abilities in the areas of performance diagnostic and analytical skills.

•  Demonstrate excellent organizational, interpersonal, project leadership.

•  Excellent written and verbal communication skills coupled with a strong orientation towards customer service.

•  Experience with the following technologies:

•  Topologies: Switched Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet (DWDM), Cisco routers and switches.

•  Protocols: Local Area Protocols (TCP / IP - ARP, FTP, TFTP, SNA). Wide-area/Routing Protocols: MPLS, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP-4, EGP, NHRP, SNMP

•  RAS / VPN infrastructures (TACACS, Radius, ACE Server); design and build.

•  Security: Advanced knowledge of VPN-1 and FW-1 (PIX, Checkpoint, Nokia Platforms)

•  Network Security Engineering (Policies, Proxies, Authentication, 802.1x etc)

•  Wireless: 802.11x wireless policy and security encryption (including, VPN Tunneling);



  • Peers within own area, project managers, level 9/10 infrastructures and line management.



  • Resolving complex technical issues and/or engaging external expertise/resources as required to ensure resolution.  Gathering anecdotal and factual information from a number of sources in order to formulate a root cause. 
  • Refining business requirements, converting them to technical requirements and devising an appropriate infrastructure solution requires choosing from multiple technologies and ensuring that solutions stay within the guidelines of security/audit standards and conform to industry best practice.
  • Understanding various design patterns which can be leveraged in the design of a new environment and for applications are unique, extending and customizing each design solution.
  • Remaining current with evolving technological products and features and constantly changing business needs, internal standards and industry best practice. 
  • Making technology decisions that determine availability of infrastructure.


•  Minimum 3-8 years experience supporting an extensive multi-vendor network (LAN/WAN/MAN) environment

•  Engineering Degree in a discipline relevant to the demands of the position

•  Certified CISCO router engineer: CCNP, CCDP (at a min)
