Exchange and Communications Systems Administrator

  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level technical support for Microsoft Exchange and Lync environment. The candidate must be comfortable in addressing critical incidents.
  • Serve as an infrastructure engineer for maintaining both Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Lync.
  • Work closely with Network Engineering, Application Development, and business stakeholders.
  • Effectively communicates current status of all projects, problems, and issues to the department management team.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities for improvements to existing processes and for automation of time consuming tasks.
  • Study and analyze the performance and capacities of the systems and peripheral equipment/systems and prepare plans for future expansion and upgrades. 
  • Identifies and directs changes through appropriate Change Control review and approval mechanisms.
  • Install system patches and application updates as directed.
  • Respond to compliance assessments and initiate corrective action when appropriate for audit and compliance remediation.
  • Oversee Systems backup and retention procedures.
  • Develop strategies, policies, processes, and best practices.
  • Mentor co-workers and helpdesk. Create documentation for operationalizing tasks.



  • Extensive knowledge of MS Exchange and Lync implementation, maintenance, security and tuning to include enterprise capabilities such as replication, clustering, high availability, encryption, compression, as well as external security solutions.
  • Knowledge of the latest version of Exchange and migrating from older to newer versions, as well as integration into Office 365.
  • Knowledge of OCS and Lync and migrating from older to newer versions, as well as integration into Skype365.
  • Knowledge of current Active Directory, Group Policy, as well as experience migration from older to newer versions.
  • Well versed in Microsoft clustering and ability to migrate physical model design for optimal performance, as well as execute a strategy to virtualize environment.
  • Extensive experience in developing enterprise Disaster Recovery strategies from the systems perspective.
  • Experience migrating from traditional converged environment, to hyper-converged.
  • Familiar with of PowerShell automation.
  • Strong communication skills with an excellent track record of working with matrixed teams.
  • Exposure to Symantec for SPAM filtering and related security products.



  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • 4+ years in a Windows/Exchange Server administration role, utilizing VMWare ESXi and VSphere.
  • 4+ years in a Senior Windows Exchange Server Role, with extensive Physical DAG, as well a virtual CAS environments.
  • 3+ years design and administration of clustered Exchange environment.
  • 1+ years utilizing PowerShell, Wscript, or other automation scripting technologies.
  • Experience with Cloud implementation a plus (Office 365)
