Executive Director, North America Supplier QA
Position Summary:
The Executive Director, North America Supplier Quality Assurance is responsible for driving all North America components and 3rd party suppliers to continuous improvement of performance on quality, measured by Global Quality Management System. Adhere to regular communication with internal departments on individual suppliers and general quality levels. Ensures development of the Supplier QA team members and training programs.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Set up reduced testing and certification programs for component and 3rd party suppliers in accordance with the business requirements including set up of systems to measure and maintain the effectiveness.
  • Install systems to monitor the effectiveness of components and 3rd party suppliers’ development processes to fulfill company requirements from a quality point of view.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the supplier qualification and certification programs continuously, and build and adjust where necessary.
  • Participate with the corporate QA Auditing team in the assessment of components and 3rd party suppliers Corrective and Preventive Actions raised as a result of .audits and organize follow up and effectiveness assessment.
  • Ensure the major new developments of components or 3rd party products, quality assurance programs are set up.
  • Participate (where needed) with Technical Packaging in the evaluation of technical capabilities of new and existing components and 3rd party suppliers.
  • Initiate, organize and follow up on quality improvement programs with components and 3rd party suppliers in cooperation with GSR or the plants where applicable.
  • Assign resources, and where necessary take the lead in validating trial runs and first production runs at components and 3rd party suppliers.
  • Assign resources, and where necessary take the lead in trouble shooting major issues with components or 3rd party products from suppliers. 
  • Organize support to the supplier development groups and the plants by having an SQA member present at the supplier for follow up during trial runs or first production runs where needed, in cooperation with the development teams. Organize process validation for new products by suppliers and/or SQA representative.
  • Raise and update quality updates and quality alerts on components or 3rd party products from suppliers.
  • Integrate North America raw material suppliers in the supplier qualification and continuous improvement program.
  • Organize and manage testing facilities for goods produced at North America suppliers where needed.
  • Evaluate the capabilities and performance of SQA managers and organize training where necessary.
  • Motivate direct reports and coach them to work independently with suppliers and the internal groups involved.
  • Monitor and act upon workload distribution, making sure the focus of the department is in line with the business objectives.
  • Control and manage the budget for the department.
  • Assure that all North America suppliers monitor their own quality performance and come up with improvement projects where necessary.
  • Take a leading position in the global Supplier Quality Assurance team to develop and implement a supplier certification program.
  • Continuously drive down quality issues assignable to North American components or 3rd party suppliers.
  • Integrate North America raw material suppliers in all these programs.
  • Participate in or lead department wide, plant specific and companywide projects.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field preferred with extensive training in Quality Management
  • 10-15+ years of quality experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Six sigma black belt or equivalent – Extensive knowledge of lean techniques
  • Proven experience in coaching and developing teams (able to develop a strong talent bench)
  • Experience is required to lead multiple change projects and shows aptitude to challenge the norm
  • Shows the potential to move one level up or move into another function
  • Good communication skills, can translate complex information in an easy way.  Ability to cascade strategy into the team
  • Team player and highly motivated to make a difference
  • Shows learning agility, able to move quickly to changing demands
  • Thorough knowledge of Quality Management systems
  • Thorough knowledge of applied statistics
  • Thorough technical knowledge of and insight in production processes. 
  • Project management skills
  • Problem solving skills are essential
  • Auditing experience is a plus
  • Lead and manage the North America Supplier Quality Assurance department
  • 30% Travel
