Role: IT Security Specialist
Location: Washington, DC
Schedule: 40 hours / week

The IT Security Specialist will primarily responsible for the following:
  • Provide technical support in the areas of risk assessment, network security, product evaluation, and security implementation.
  • Responsible for review of IT systems hardware and software for protecting the confidentiality, integrity and availability of sensitive information.
  • Provides security evaluations for a diverse range of IT capabilities including servers, workstations, switches, routers, mobile devices and other IT related equipment. 
  • Requires extensive knowledge of IT related activities, processes, procedures and a familiarity with NIST, ITIL standards.
  • Conducts security product evaluations, and recommends products, technologies and upgrades to improve

Qualifications:
  • Assist with security review of new IT hardware and software requests to ensure compliance with enterprise security requirements, to include endpoint security, data protection and vulnerability management.
  • Provide review of hardware operating systems and communication network protocols for implementing devices within a general support system. Technology reviews vary from standard IT equipment to ancillary equipment, including imaging peripherals with input, output, and storage devices necessary for security and surveillance, peripheral IT equipment designed to be controlled by a computer, and medical hardware with embedded IT communication features.
  • Support review of equipment manufacturer’s Medical Device Security Disclosure Statements, as applicable, to determine security capabilities of devices.
  • Provide completion of security checklist to vet new requests, and engage with end users and IT staff to confirm security implementation specifics of devices.
  • Maintain concise, thorough, and frequent communication with IT staff as to status of each review request
  • Assist with Incident Response activities for end-user IT hardware to follow-up with IT staff and end users in resolving the issues

Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant IT discipline.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years’ work experience supporting an IT department of a public or private entity.
  • Prior experience communicating status of Incident Management Program areas to agency upper management.
  • Ability to work and lead by example in a highly collaborative environment with peers and senior government officials.
  • Ability to maintain a strong awareness of local, national and international trends and developments in the area of security.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills required
  • CompTIA Network + and Security+ certifications
  • Familiar with NIST IT Contingency Planning, Publication 800-34

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • Prior in Incident Management experience in a Government security operations center

Candidates must be US citizens and able to obtain and/or maintain a Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance as a condition of employment and maintain DOJ EOD (must be US citizen)
