Jr. Chemist (R&D, Color Cosmetics, GMP, QC, Stability)
Summary:
The successful entry-to-mid-level Lab Tech/ Chemist would ideally have 1-5 yrs. in depth experience in color cosmetics, QC, Stability and GMP; along with hands-on benchtop QC, lab, formulation, product development. Bringing hands-on expertise with colorants, dyes, pigments, emulsions, surfactants etc. used in formulation of color cosmetics. The new R&D team member will have a passion for new cosmetics products, and knowledge of personal care trends, be active in the personal care industry (SCC etc.), and have an understanding of associated regulations, raw materials and Quality Control (QC). A passion for QC, Manufacturing, R&D processes, product development, and product innovation, working with colorants, stabilizers, color pigmented lotions, creams, emulsions, powder, anhydrous, foundations, etc. Must have familiarity with trending formulas and/or delivery systems, Skin Care (Creams/Lotions), Color Cosmetics, Bath/Body Care, Hair Care, and SPF Sunscreens.
 
Description:
 
  • Learn and apply knowledge of skincare and color cosmetic prototypes including stability testing, troubleshooting the and other activities related to formulation development.
  • Learn and apply knowledge of pigmented cosmetic products (creams, powders, anhydrous, foundations, etc.)
  • Perform standardized Stability Testing as per problem-solving;
  • Support R&D formulation as needed (understand various types of emulsion products W/Si, O/W, W/O)
  • Shade matching of Cosmetic Products for batch adjustments (when necessary)
  • Support developing new product concepts to support the introduction of new cosmetic skincare ingredients.
  • Evaluate projects up on stability from other staff members
  • Research new and innovative raw materials
  • Prepare/execute formula revisions as needed
  • Evaluate and provide color adjustment, direction to cosmetic and OTC products
  • Must work with minimal supervision in Manufacturing as needed
  • Conduct pilot batching to develop industrial-scale formula if necessary
  • Establish filling parameter for production
  • Handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Skincare to cGMP Quality Standards, GLP and following lab procedures with attention to details.
  • Inter-departmental interaction.
  • Adherence to laboratory safety protocols.
  • Write up processing instructions as needed.

 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s (BS) or Master’s (MS) in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Cosmetics Science or related 
  • Must have 1-5 yrs. experience in Color Cosmetics.
  • Demonstrated skills including color matching, shade matching, emulsion, oil-in-water (O/W), water-in-oil (W/O), surfactants, emulsifiers, W–silicate-based,  stabilizers, etc.
  • Expertise with color, pigments, dyes, emulsions, surfactants, other raw materials for color cosmetics.
  • Must have 1-5 yrs. experience in regulatory documentation, cGMP, raw materials and Quality Control (QC)
  • 1-5 yrs. of cGMP experience in a regulated setting
  • Familiarity with trending formulas and/or delivery systems, Skin Care (Creams/Lotions), Color Cosmetics, Bath/Body Care, Hair Care, SPF Sunscreens
  • Expertise with Formulation for skincare and color pigmented cosmetic products 
  • Stability testing skills and knowledge of cosmetics raw materials used during product development. 
  • A passion for research, product development, and product innovation, working with colorants, stabilizers, color pigmented cosmetic products, powder, anhydrous, foundations, etc.
