LINUX Systems Administrator

Detailed Job Description:

  • Accountable for LINUX application operations systems to include server systems, web servers, database servers, etc. 
  • Assists with operating system and application software configuration, backup-restore procedures, performance tuning, and system and application upgrades.
  • Monitor’s system performance and availability and assists in fault diagnosis and mitigation.
  • Collects system operation data for use in resource utilization studies, capacity analysis, and planning.
  • Provides assistance to users in accessing and using computer resources.     

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Responsible for operations and support LINUX, maintenance and research and development to ensure continual operation
  • Five+ years of system administration experience in Linux environments and proficient in tasks such as shell scripting, analyzing log files, managing user accounts and groups, configuring tables, and setting up mail services.
  • Hands on experience in testing and pushing patches for Windows.
  • Experience in setup/configuration of MS Workstations and Servers.
  • Install new and/or rebuild servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories and storage in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements for classified and unclassified systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot Windows Server issues and determine root cause
  • Work with Active Directory to maintain user and computer objects.
  • Provide hardware and
    •software troubleshooting for PCs and Laptops on LAN/WAN.
  • Provide Tier II hardware and software support for on-site helpdesk.
  • Work closely with customers and other team members to troubleshoot complex issues and document solutions.
  • Assist in the planning, installation and evaluation of application software, OS and upgrades proposed for use on the network.
  • Assist team with technical issues in the initiation and planning phase of hardware and software upgrades.
  • Develop and configure system security using GPOs and templates.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures for classified and unclassified systems.
  • Administer McAfee's EPO to manage system wide anti-virus configuration.
  • Maintain Symantec Backup Exec for tape archival.
  • Maintain electronic media library
  • Perform routine security audits of multiple systems.
  • Perform system monitoring to include reviewing audit logs on a regular basis
  • Administer MS Exchange
  • Perform software license management
  • Ensure compliance of all software
  • Be self-motivated and organized
  • Experience working in a Classified environment
  • Apply IT security principles, methods, and security products to protect and maintain the availability, integrity, confidentiality and accountability of information system resources and information
  • Ensure hardware, operating systems, software, and related procedures adheres to organizational standards.
