Apex Systems has an immediate opportunity for a Mid-Level Performance Tester in the greater Silver Spring, MD area.  This is a long-term contract-to-hire position supporting the federal government, and compensation ranges depending on experience.  If you are interested, or if you would like more information, please contact Catherine Chambers at cchambers@apexsystems.com


Responsibilities of the Mid-Level Performance Tester:

  • Has experience in measuring, analyzing, and optimizing the performance and scalability of web and mobile applications. You will work with architects and developers on large-scale, enterprise-level performance test projects.
  • Has tested systems in cloud, on-prem and hybrid environments
  • Understands web application and browser concepts (HTTP, connections, cookies, caching, streaming, etc.)
  • Knows how to analyze performance requirements, translate into detailed test cases, and create your own test scripts
  •  Been exposed to test data in various formats (JSON, XML, CSV, etc.) and you understand data storage, encoding, encryption, data transformation, and related concepts
  • Is able to design, develop, execute Performance test cases and scripts that cover a wide variety of scenarios such as smoke, functional, regression, endurance, and performance testing through analysis of product specifications and software requirements, as well as mentor/train the customer teams on the same,
  • Knows how to parameterize your scripts for load, spike, stress, and soak tests.
  • Familiar with APM tools and can explain what metrics they provide and what they mean
  • Works well independently and as part of a team


Required Experience of the Mid-Level Performance Tester:

  • Hands-on experience using performance test tools to develop scripts, monitor application/database/machine level performance, analyze performance metrics, troubleshoot errors/failures/bottlenecks, and prepare performance test dashboards and reports,
  • Deep knowledge of how web applications work over HTTP protocol,
  • Minimum 3 years of experience using performance test tools like LoadRunner, JMeter, WebTest or others,
  • Minimum 2-3 years SQL experience and an ability to write intermediate to complex SQL code,
  • At least 1-2 years of experience on AWS and cloud services,
  • Hands-on experience with performance monitoring tools New Relic APM, App Dynamics, Compuware APM (Dynatrace)
  • Experience with diagnostics tools to identify root cause like HP diagnostics
  • Experience in both Windows and UNIX environments
  • Work experience with Relational Databases & SQL Query tools
  • Knowledge of Automation Tools (Selenium, Ruby, Cucumber)
  • Good written, oral, and presentation skills


Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree required, Masters Degree preferred
