Seeking someone with 1 to 5 years of experience whose primary responsibility will be in design, coding and testing of secure web application software. Candidates must enjoy working with open source software and cutting edge technologies. Candidates will contribute to sponsored research projects and have an opportunity to interact with other scientists and engineers.

Java Lead Developer 

Contract: 6 month contract to hire

Location: (Midtown) Atlanta, GA 30306

Pay: negotiable depending on experience 

Client Benefits:

  • 44 days of vacation

  • 9% matching 401K (Can choose the 13% matching option but must be invested for 10 years)

Travel Requirements: 10% - 25% travel

Education: BA degree required

Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively develop software 75% of the time
  • Lead a team of software developers
  • Participate in product definition activities including feature analysis and project scope analysis
  • Enforce coding standards and practices
  • Work with other members of the project team to refine requirements, formulate technical approaches, collaborate with various technical groups, review code, and mentor the team

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in applicable area
  • 8+ years hands on development experience
  • Java web frameworks (Java 7+)
  • Java application servers (Tomcat/Glassfish/etc.)
  • JDBC (SQL) with relational databases (Oracle/PostgreSQL/etc.)
  • Unix/Linux
  • Cross-browser UI design experience (JavaScript/Angular/etc.)
  • Version control systems (Git/Subversion/etc.)
  • Unit test frameworks
  • RESTful API development
  • Leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with service oriented architectures
  • Experience with cloud-based solutions
  • Experience leading teams of developers
  • Experience designing and documenting software architectures
  • Possesses, or is willing to pursue, an advanced degree
  • Technical diagnostic expertise including problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills
  • Ability to acquire new skills efficiently
  • Strong skills in legacy and modern Java technologies, JSON, web services (REST and SOAP), JavaScript, data access components, and XML
  • Demonstrable experience authoring product requirements documentation
  • Outstanding writing skills with an ability to convey complex, technical information in an engaging and easily understood manner
  • Strong collaboration and coaching skills
  • A continual learner that stays up-to-date on the latest technologies
  • Experience leading teams, with a proven ability to develop talent
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to rapidly develop and cultivate relationships with peers, partners, and key influencers
  • Strong communication skills; ability to speak to and influence engineers, product and project managers, corporate leadership, partners, and customers
  • Cloud environments (AWS)
