Job Description
Position Summary
Responsible for overseeing the design of complex voice infrastructure/network systems. Under general direction establishes voice infrastructure/networking standards, and designs standard system configurations. Oversee deployment of new voice systems/network infrastructure.  Provide Tier 4 infrastructure/network performance by troubleshooting infrastructure network problems, major outages, and collaborating with architects on systems optimization.
Day to Day
a) Infrastructure/Network Design – Work with users and IT operations to define requirements for major new systems/network implementations. Evaluate and recommend new technologies to meet future systems/network requirements. Assist with development of technical design for critical components and newly approved technologies. Consult with enterprise architects and system/network administration when requested.

b) Infrastructure/Network Optimization – Identify new or emerging technologies that will provide significant increases in system/network performance. Using system/network performance data propose changes to improve availability and reliability. Using resource utilization data propose changes to increase system/network efficiency and capacity.

c) Operational Support – Provide technical review and approval of complex changes. Provide Level 4 technical support to resolve complex critical production incidents.

d) Project Support – Provide technical designs according to project requirements for complex enterprise-wide projects. Provide input to project planning and scheduling. Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for major technology deployments.

e) Professional Development - Increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in profession

Architecture Group within Network Services.

Manager is looking for an engineer or architect interested in the strategy side of things who has come up through the networking world.  This role will be working with operations through engineering into architecture, planning and strategy.

The ideal candidate will have Cisco experience, routing, EGRP, experience working with vendors and managed vendors. Someone who is not interested in sitting at the keyboard anymore, but more interested in looking at future technologies and how we integrate them.

The role will be strategy on a page; providing their position and what would be a reason to implement that technology or interface with that technology. Understanding the current network, understanding where the technology might come in play.

It will be vital for this person to create a business case or ability to thoroughly present why they make their recommendations. The resource should be able to make a decision toward deploying or feeding feedback to vendors. 

This resource will need to be a big picture thinker, have a long-term vision with the ability to explain to all levels within the organization.
