Senior Network Engineer – Long-Term, Open-Ended Contract – Raleigh, NC


Job Description:

Wireless LAN (WLAN) site surveys, documentation, site remediation, and site installation and testing. Resources needed with associated tasks are outlined below.

-Wireless/Switched LAN Site Survey and Documentation
-Perform and complete a wireless site survey to verify access point (AP) models and their current/future locations.
-Perform and complete a LAN survey to verify switch models and their locations.
-Document required network drops for new AP installations.
-Identify communication closest locations (MDF/IDF) and inspect wiring closets for rack space, mounting requirements, and power capabilities needed for wireless and switched LAN components.
-Record and take pictures of all network devices, e.g., MDFs/IDFs, planned AP positioning, switches, routers, access points, sniffers, etc. during survey and after deployment.
-Document AP placement (minimum of 12 feet from the ground of workroom floors and dock areas for serviceability) and mounting requirements.
-Identify the cabling requirements for each AP installation and distance to the wiring closet.
-Identify technical or facility issues that may affect the implementation of the 802.11 WLAN and switched LAN infrastructure.
-Upon completion of the onsite and/or remote survey, complete the Site Survey deliverables.
-Review the site survey information with the client site point of contact to get their input on other potential issues that could impact the site deployment.
-Support and troubleshoot existing 802.11 wireless and switched LAN infrastructures.
Installation and Testing
-Rack, connect, and power up new wireless LAN controllers at the site.
-Verify wireless coverage meets client requirements.
-Permanently affix AP to designated installation location.
-Bring up the new APs and attach to the new wireless LAN controllers.
-Test the AP coverage areas in accordance with the client requirements f 802.11 a/b/g/n coverage with a minimum of -65dbm throughput. Provide coordination and a quality assurance check on the new AP installations.
-Ensure wireless and LAN configurations are compliant with client standards.
-Upload all active wireless and LAN devices into Cisco Prime Infrastructure
-Update installation and acceptance sign off.
