Who we are looking for:
We are seeking a Telecommunications Professional and must be capable of engineering routine and specific outside plant work orders, both distribution and feeder. Must be capable of providing administrative and field support to the outside plant work forces. 3-5 years of experience. Telecom industry standard software platforms a plus as well as OSP/ISP Design Engineer experience.
 
Location: Schaumburg Illinois USA 60173
Description: Individual will perform all aspects of detailed OSP design and vendor management to providing guidance to vendors performing design based on Verizon build standards, working with teammates, the field, and other internal teams to support build out of the Verizon backhaul, front haul and ODN network. The individual will help trouble-shoot issues and escalate as necessary to ensure fiber is properly sized and designed to meet all network needs.
What you’ll be doing
- Responsible for managing all engineering and construction activities associated with expanding and maintaining the OSP network infrastructure.
- Leads large scale projects, driving productivity through use of vendor resources to meet deliverables.
- Engages appropriate internal and external organizations with professional written/verbal communications to accomplish required tasks.
- Coordinates project activities with contractors, developers, municipalities and consultants.
- Proposes solutions supported by sound engineering and operational productivity to achieve goals in creative and effective ways.
- Recognizes vulnerabilities in network infrastructure and makes intelligent decisions to ensure reliability – within financial constraints.
- Prepares detailed cost analysis, project specifications, spend forecasts, route mapping, requisitions, and business justifications.
- Processes reports, vendor invoices, material receipts, and other administrative duties.
- Receives general instruction, otherwise performs independently with minimal supervision, exercising latitude to achieve daily objectives and approaches to critical/complex assignments.
- Create Install, Splice, and Facility Prep packages for field install and test. Maintain local site and fiber records.

What you’ll need to have:
1. Bachelor’s degree or 4 or more years of work experience
2. 7-10 years of direct PM experience managing Outside Plant projects

Even better if you have:
1. Experience working permit issues with municipalities in the Chicagoland area. Direct experience working with Boingo a plus.
2. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of engineering principles within OSP job related functional area to include general practices, procedures and industry standards.
