Summary
The Fabrication Engineering Group provides fabrication engineering and materials management for both mechanical and electronic projects using state-of-the-art technology.  The group is involved from the initial design through manufacturing, assembly, integration and test, and works with program teams to ensure performance requirements, schedule, and budget are delivered to plan.  The group continually investigates innovative fabrication technologies to assess their utility for Laboratory efforts. 
Fabrication engineering expertise is required to support PLM implementation and testing, and is necessary to off-load delivery metrics and forecasting from AGL to enable focus on PLM implementation. There is an immediate need to support ASTA-airborne, HEL Army 10kWA, and Maverick programs
Position Scope
  • Lead/manage fabrication execution for large programs as part of an interdisciplinary team developing prototype hardware
  • Promote early collaboration and create an effective partnership between program teams and fabrication operations; coordinate G72 resources for programs, convey priorities, and resolve conflicts
  • Understand intent and requirements of systems, lead design for manufacturability reviews at program PDR & CDR, and kick-offs for complex parts at fabrication start
  • Ensure that group and lab fabrication processes are employed effectively; lead development and documentation of fabrication standard practices, including implementation of workflows in new  product lifecycle management (PLM) system
  • Provide regular fabrication status updates to programs and develop solutions for issues that arise
  • Provide fabrication input for planning resources, schedule, & budget
  • Interface with mission assurance office, program management office, contracting and property office
  • Secondary priorities:  lead fabrication cost assessments and forecasting for upcoming work, on-time delivery assessment, process documentation, and process improvements

Requirements:
  • 5+ years and a Masers or 10+ years and a Bachelors in EE, ME, Industrial Engineer etc.
  • Extensive Manufacturing/Fabrication – oversight of the process, understands how to make improvements, understanding the designs and making recommendations on the pieces/parts.
  • Fabrication experience with a focus on making recommendations on design
  • Ideally want an Aerospace or Medical Device BG (due to the regulations that come along with that industry; this team adheres to AS9100)
  • NPI/Manufacturing Program Experience
