Apex Systems has an immediate direct hire opening for a Scientific Systems Instrument Technician in the North Charleston SC area!
The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in sciences (chemistry, biology, etc.) with a technical savvy ability. This position requires troubleshooting experience with lab instrumentation and software. Proficiency in the diagnosing and troubleshooting of instrumentation (Empower 3, IDBS lab notebook, Chemstation, TOC, etc.) that is connected to a PC and running software is preferred. GMP experience is a must (pharmaceutical industry preferred). This is a DIRECT HIRE role with an amazing company.

Position: Analytical Lab Instrumentation Technician
Division: Pharmaceuticals- Analytical Chemistry
Location: North Charleston, SC
Compensation: Negotiable hourly with benefits
Shift: M-F, 8-5
Position Summary
The Scientific Systems Instrumentation Technician will help ensure proper computer operation so that end users can accomplish business tasks. This includes receiving, prioritizing, documenting, and actively resolving end user help requests. Problem resolution may involve the use of diagnostic and help request tracking tools, as well as require that the individual give in-person, hands-on help at the desktop level.  Participate in scientific computer system installation, validation development, test execution, and support for laboratory systems.
 Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required.
  • 3+ years’ experience in an information technology and Pharmaceutical laboratory support role, preferably in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing field.
  • Experience in a validated GxP pharmaceutical or biotechnology laboratory services, or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.

 Functional Competencies
  • Strong Knowledge of computer hardware and mobile devices including smartphones.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and Active Directory.
  • Experience with desktop operating systems, including Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 10. Extensive application support experience with Microsoft Suites and Adobe Professional.
  • Working knowledge of a range of diagnostic utilities, including Microsoft native tools.
  • Understanding of GAMP5 Risk based validation
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment (Autoclave, Oven, Lyopholizer, GE Proficy, Historian, and Ignition) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory instruments (Empower 3, IDBS ELN, Chemstation, TOC, Particulate counters) preferred.

 Essential Functions
  • Field incoming help requests from end users via both telephone and e-mail in a courteous manner.
  • Build rapport and elicit problem details from help desk customers.
  • Prioritize and schedule fixes to problems. Triage and escalate problems when required.
  • Record, track, and document the help desk request problem solving process. This includes all successful and unsuccessful decisions made and actions taken throughout the resolution process.
  • Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights across manufacturing, laboratory systems and PCs.
  • Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the company.
  • Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, implementing file backups, and configuring systems and applications.
  • Install anti-virus and security software.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, including checking and cleaning of workstations, printers, and peripherals.
  • Evaluate documented resolutions and analyze trends for ways to prevent future problems.
  • Develop and publish training instructions, how to sheets, and frequently asked questions lists for end users.
