Job Scope & Purpose:

Our cutting edge biotech partner is expanding their biology team and seeking a Neurology Scientist to lead research projects hands-on and to contribute to the plans in building an AAV Neurology pipeline of therapies. You will be relied upon to contribute to the design of experiments in both in vitro and in vivo preclinical studies and work externally with CRO partners to progress critical studies. Core expertise in AAV (Adeno-associated virus) or Lentiviral therapies is desired as you will be taking on gene therapy delivery issues as you develop the science for this new start-up. You will ideally have worked in ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) or related neurology rare disorders to create therapies for patients in need. Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Ability to lead the development and implementation of a preclinical research plan from discovery to IND for AAV Gene Therapy Programs
  • Identify and propose projects to senior management for approval and then drive progress to the clinic
  • Serve as principal investigator or study director of preclinical studies
  • Mentor and lead teams of  Research Associates and direct the work of lab team for successful outcomes
  • Establish and Foster external partnerships with academic and industry collaborations
  • Assist in securing intellectual property, including detailed descriptions for patent filing and/or proof of concept work
  • Platform and assay development, focus on iPSCs, brain slice preparations and in vivo rodent models.
  • Technical expertise with tissue culture (human iPS and ES cells, primary neuronal and glial cultures, cell lines), protein biochemistry (quantitative immunoblotting, immunoprecipitation), in vitro patch clamp electrophysiology, molecular biology (PCR, RT-PCR, neuronal transfection)

Job Requirements

  • Ph.D. + Post-doc in a relevant scientific discipline and 5 years of industry experience related to genetic engineering preferably in Neurology based research
  • Direct experience with assays and technologies related to gene editing, viral and/or non-viral DNA/RNA delivery
  • Significant knowledge of neurologic disorders, preferably ALS
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Scientifically rigorous, highly organized, and significant attention to details
  • Knowledge of the pathophysiology and treatment of neurologic disorders and related genetics
  • Prior success discovering and developing successful novel medicines in drug discovery settings are ideal
  • Proven track record of leading research programs and teams towards pre-clinical studies
  • High energy level, focus, a passion and sense of urgency for developing important new medicines for devastating diseases and patients in need
