Sr. Level Database Admin – Sybase
Location of Services: Tampa, FL
The Sr. Level Database Administrator (DBA) – Sybase will be directly responsible for the maintaining databases, backup/recovery, database design, structure, installing, patching, maintenance, performance tuning and monitoring of all databases across the customer landscapes.  DBA will also need to ensure compliance to various security and encryption protocols across the various environments. The successful candidate will need to have an excellent understanding of and extensive knowledge of standard system tools with the ability to use them to automate complex system tasks.  This position will also need to provide oversight and the ability to coach other team members.  Experience in a large networked environment with good understanding of network fundamentals is essential as is knowledge of network file systems and storage options.
  • 24x7 support of customer environments including operations, incidents, service requests and execution of changes
  • Perform/coordinate incident diagnosis, corrective action, and root cause analysis
  • Pro-actively highlight and address potential problems and investigate solutions in conjunction
  • Provide monitoring of jobs and logs for Sybase Servers systems
  • Develop scripts in Shell and VBS related to monitors and automation of checks
  • Identify areas for improvement with a view to maintaining and enhancing the reliability, stability, integrity and security of the customer landscapes
  • Mentor and coach junior team members
  • Plan data refresh, migration, and other initiatives related to large application development projects.
  • Leverage existing automation to expedite deployments and service requests as well we identify areas of operations quality deficit or automation opportunities
  • Ensure contractual SLAs are met
  • Conform and adhere to change management process for customer environments
  • Create documenting for all process and support tasks
  • Provide guidance as a subject matter expert on product design, development, troubleshooting and documentation
  • Maintain responsibility for end-user (customer) satisfaction
  • Willing to work a second shift (e.g. 4 to mid-night) or after hours and weekends
  • Responsible for sharing 24 x 7 on-call duties with other team members

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of Sybase ASE experience preferably in a cloud environment
  • Experience with Replication Server and SQL Anywhere experience required
  • Experience with database, backup/restore. patching, installations, troubleshooting, tuning, and  monitoring
  • Experience with Shell scripting
  • Strong documentation skills are necessary
  • Experience with SAP HANA/Oracle/SQL Server a plus
  • Knowledge and familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure
  • Experience working in DoD environment a plus
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English
  • Candidates must be a US Citizen and open to obtaining and maintaining a DoD Secret Security Clearance per condition of employment
