Overview:

Provide onsite IT system engineering and O&M support including system, server and virtual infrastructure. Support system testing and monitoring, backups, performance tuning, capacity analysis, integration, and lifecycle management. Provide comprehensive system administration of Windows Servers including database servers, web servers, and application servers. Ensure systems meet information and physical security safeguards. Engineer new technologies and incorporate them into the environment. Responsible for ongoing operational support and maintenance of systems and data.  Provide occasional surge support for the IT service desk.

 

Provide expertise for IT Infrastructure, application infrastructure, and business continuity in accordance with contractually established terms and conditions and established technical standards.

 

The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to transition into a team lead role for one or more technology areas.

 

Responsibilities:

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for a growing Windows network, providing system engineering and O&M support for an organization of 2000+ users.

 

  • Enterprise-level support for overseeing multi-domain active directory environment.
  • Serves as the first line of escalation support for domain technology issues that cannot be resolved by tier one and two server support.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Active Directory and third-party software utilities for hardware systems within company operational guidelines.
  • Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures as well as contribute to and maintains system standards.
  • Configures hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
  • Provides problem and incident resolution, including dealing with software and hardware vendor technical support
  • Acts as a liaison with other groups to provide information sharing pertaining to the needs of the diverse set of computer users supported by the client as a whole
  • Improve existing processes through solutions to recurring problems and enhancements to existing solutions or documentation.
  • Assist/Mentor junior level technicians, specialists, and engineers in their activities.

Qualifications:

Job Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent soft skills including a mastery of customer service – theory and execution.
  • Experience in positions of leadership.
  • 11 years of progressive Information Technology (IT) experience including at least 6 years supporting Windows environment
  • Extensive experience with infrastructure and server theories, principles and concepts; application infrastructure and standards; networking fundamentals; Windows; Physical Server architecture; Virtualization Technologies and LAN/WAN/Firewall/VPN network technologies.
  • Experience managing multi-domain active directory environment, knowledge in administering Active Directory replication and creating/modifying GPO’s, DNS, DHCP and Windows scripting.
  • Experience with enterprise storage solutions: NAS, SAN, NFS, CIFS (NetApp, Hitachi)
  • Experience with endpoint patching preferably using Quest KACE 1000 and familiarity with Image creation/deployment process.
  • Knowledge of Solarwinds, Splunk system monitoring tools
  • Use of Enterprise SAN and NAS, documentation, disaster recovery planning and authentication, array upgrades and testing as well as capacity planning and performance monitoring and break/fix situations.
  • Strong communication skills and customer service skills
  • Experience documenting processes and creating work instructions
  • Experience working as a part of a large team and working directly with customers.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Office 365 including Exchange
  • Basic Knowledge of managing VDI environments using VMWare Horizon 7 and Citrix XenDesktop.
  • Experience with Windows 10 deployment, Image creation, configuring GPO’s.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills for Windows 7, Windows 10
  • Experience with server hardware management (racks, power, cabling)
  • Experience working with remote management tools (iLO, iDRAC, etc.)

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree or Bachelors.
  • One of the following certifications: MCSA/MCSE, Security+, VCP
