Apex is searching for a qualified Sr. Research Associate to work at an exciting pharma company in the greater LA area!
Primary Responsibilities
  • Performs cell line expansion, transfection, transduction, and single-cell cloning per protocols
  • Executes analytical testing to characterize viral vector production
  • Assists with virus and cell-based analytical method qualification and transfer
  • Identifies issues and proposes solutions
  • Collaborates with analytical development and process sciences colleagues
  • Documents execution in batch records, laboratory notebooks or test methods
  • Revises SOPs and contributes to technical reports

  • Experience growing viral vectors and/or cell lines in a process development or GMP manufacturing setting
  • Strong communication skills (e.g., clear and concise) and a team player
  • Strong time and project management skills
  • Strong critical and logical thinking with ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and implement recommendations for resolution
  • Self-motivated, and flexible, able to prioritize, multi-task, and work in a fast-paced & demanding environment
  • Takes ownership of the assigned project, consulting with management and peers
  • Able to understand and interpret data/information and its practical application
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant scientific discipline
  • At least 1 year of experience in mammalian cell culture and/or viral vector production.
  • Proficient with mammalian cell culture at Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) and aseptic operations
  • Ability to follow procedures with attention to detail, and successfully execute experiments at the bench
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced small company environment with minimal direction and able to adjust workload based upon changing priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain detailed execution records and perform data analysis

  • 2-5 years of related experience in a lab or manufacturing environment focused on production of viral vectors or other cell-based therapies.
  • Master’s degree in virology, cell biology or immunology
  • Experienced with viral titer and characterization assays
  • Experienced with viral characterization, e.g. PCR, TEM, NGS, ELISA, or viral particle analysis
  • Experienced in experimental design and statistical analysis
  • Knowledge or experience with viral vector manufacturing in the biotech industry
