Apex Systems has an immediate opportunity for a Sr. Systems/Software Tester in the greater Washington, DC area.  This is a contract-to-hire position supporting a division of the federal government, and compensation ranges depending on experience.  If you are interested, or if you would like more information, please contact Amanda McIlvain at amcilvain@apexsystems.com

 

Responsibilities of the Sr. Systems/Software Tester:

  • Generate test plans, procedures, and work instructions from customer requirements
  • Setup and configure test setups, fixtures, and instrumentation as required by the test plans and or test standards
  • Implement and deploy test fixtures, testing apparatus and machines and verify their appropriateness
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of data results through thorough documentation processes
  • Conduct and/or supervise testing by other Test Engineers
  • Applies extensive expertise in Integration and Test
  • Solves complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Performs work with minimal direction and is reviewed each month or longer
  • Can make sound decisions that result in an organization achieving critical organizational objective
  • Creates test strategies and designs test suites, write test cases that cover all the functionality, and performs the test execution
  • Executes and creates test plans and defines moderate level scenarios and variations in data to adequately perform testing
  • Performs recurring regression testing on multiple platforms

 

Required Experience of the Sr. Systems/Software Tester:

  • Minimum of 10 years of practical experience in Systems Engineering including experience with design, development and testing of custom software systems of high complexity
  • Experience interacting with development teams to resolve discrepancies and issues
  • Experience formalizing, developing and writing requirements, plans, and procedures based on customer discussions, briefings and interactions
  • Experience developing system level designs, high level control and data interfaces
  • Experience identifying, analyzing and resolving problems in all phases of the system lifecycle
  • Experience with Systems Integration, test execution, and test results documentation
  • Experience problem solving and debugging
  • Experience in scoping broad technical efforts with ability to provide accurate labor estimates
  • Experience working with customers, end users, and software design teams
  • Defect identification, reporting, and management
  • Performance testing
  • End to end testing
  • Functional testing
  • Front and back-end testing
  • Experience with test case repositories and defect tracking tools
  • Project and task oriented with a focus on details.  Excellent problem-solving skills, and extremely productive and self-motivated

Desired Experience of the Sr. Systems/Software Tester:

  • Experience with enterprise-level test automation frameworks
  • Experience in Agile environment
  • General knowledge of some programming languages (Node.js, Java, .NET, etc.)
  • Familiarity with SW tools and compilers
  • Application database and integration across computing platforms
  • General knowledge of system design, analysis, requirements gathering
  • Scripting (VBScript, Perl, Python)

 

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required, Masters degree preferred
