GENERAL SUMMARY: The Systems Administrator is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining technologies .  The environments include Microsoft Windows, Linux, and VMware.  The Systems Administrator keeps abreast of technology trends and information and recommends appropriate hardware and software upgrades.

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Systems Administrator’s responsibilities include:

  1. Supporting VMWare, Windows Servers, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and Office 365
  2. Evaluating, installing and configuring new hardware and software
  3. Answering technical inquiries and assisting users within established service level agreements
  4. Monitoring and tuning system performance
  5. Participating in special projects
  6. Analyzing system logs and identifying potential issues
  7. Troubleshooting reported problems
  8. Applying operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes
  9. Performing routine audits of systems and software
  10. Documenting technical environment and system configuration
  11. Creating, updating, or deleting user accounts

 

MEASURES OF SUCCESS:

  1. Meeting service level agreements for user requests and system uptime goals.
  2. Completing assigned tasks and projects successfully in a timely manner.
  3. Attaining high levels of customer satisfaction.

 

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

  1. Reports to the Director of Operations and Infrastructure.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field required.
  2. A minimum three years of systems administration experience required.
  3. Experience managing networked servers with knowledge of system utilities, hardware installation, switches, firewalls, networks, and operating/application system installation required.
  4. Experience in a multi-platform network environment including mail server and client support, RDP, VPN and Cloud environment support.
  5. Expertise with system administration issues in a large and complex server environment required.
  6. Knowledge of backup technology, monitoring and other automated systems management technologies required.
  7. Outstanding deductive and investigative skills to identify and diagnose complex, technical problems required.
  8. Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
  9. Ability to work well with others and in a team environment required.
  10. Ability to work independently and take initiative required.
  11. Ability to quickly learn new techniques, concepts, and procedures required.
