Job Description: 

This contract position will be a 12 month assignment. This hands-on position is responsible for the maintenance and administration of our Splunk Enterprise environment.

Responsibilities 

-The Sr. Security Engineer position is a hybrid role combining key aspects of Support and Architecture responsible to design, develop, and recommend standards, best practices, and assist functional teams with implementation. 

• Schedules installations and upgrades and maintains them in accordance with established company policies and procedures. 

• Develops and promotes standard operating procedures. 

• Uses data and other information to influence decision making. 

• Designs verification procedures to ensure reliability of newly installed or upgraded systems. 

• Researches best practices for systems over which this position has been designated lead, and coordinates implementation. 

• This position requires the selected candidate to possess business insight; technical acuity; and the ability to think, communicate and write at various levels of abstraction. 

• Manage information security activities related to the protection of PCI, PII, and other sensitive information which may reside in the system. 

• Develop business-relevant metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the program. 

• Act as subject matter expert to provide guidance with business and technical partners for new use case design and implementation into Splunk. 

• Monitor and optimize performance within the Splunk environment. 


Education and Qualifications 


• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems or other related field; or significant work experience. 

• Professional certification, such as a Splunk Certified Admin, or other similar credentials. 

• Working knowledge of scripting languages including Python, PowerShell, and working with REST APIs. 

• Strong conceptual thinking and communication skills — the ability to conceptualize complex business and technical requirements into comprehensible models and templates. 

• Team-oriented interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively with a broad range of people and roles, including vendors, IT and business personnel. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

Experience 

• Minimum of two years’ Linux systems engineer experience, or similar. 

• Minimum of two years’ experience administering a distributed Splunk Enterprise Environment. 

• Experience with Splunk Enterprise Security is preferred. 


• 4 to 6 years of combined application development and security work experience. 
- Knowledge of a security-specific architecture methodology or standards (NIST, ISO 27000-series, or equivalent). 
- Experience working with regulatory requirements such as Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS), and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX).
