Position Summary: 
  • Perform monitoring and maintenance functions associated specialized network and telecommunications system. System monitoring includes, but is not limited to, cellular IP-based networks, digital and analog carrier circuits, local and wide area networks (LAN/WAN), Windows server administration, and vendor-specific equipment that includes Landis & Gyr, Silver Spring Networks/Itron and Cisco. 

 
  • Candidate must have proven experience in providing customer support for both internal and external communications customers. 
  • Candidate must be a professional, team-oriented individual with the ability to multi-task, manage network outages, triage events, and the desire to master new technologies. 


Work Hours / Travel Requirements: 
  • This is a 12-hour night shift position providing 24x7 coverage of Smart Grid Command Center for a leading energy utility company in Columbus, Ohio. Candidate will work 8 hr. days on dayshift for training and then transition to night shift after training completion. Some travel is to be expected for system work and/or training; however it will be minimal. 


Minimum Requirements 
  • Education: Associate Degree in Computer Science, technical or related field OR High School Diploma/GED with 2 years of related experience. 
  • Experience: Two years technical or related field (In addition to any experience identified above). 


Requirements- Other: (Preferred experience) 
  • Associate Degree in Electronics, Engineering Technology, Telecommunications or Computer Science. 
  • Experience in optical, analog/digital microwave and/or multiplexing systems associated with communications network maintenance and surveillance is a plus. 
  • Good working knowledge of digital transmission systems and circuits, including DS0, DS1, DS3 and optical circuits as well as specialized testing and troubleshooting techniques associated with each are also favorable. 
  • Strong customer service attitude, good keyboarding skills. 
  • Maintain a valid driver license at all times. Driving of company vehicles is required including city, highway and off-road travel as necessary. A take-home vehicle for commutes to/from work is not provided
