Primary Purpose:

The TEST ENGINEER II functions and performs under the guidance and direction of the DES ENGINEERING MANAGER.  The purpose of this position is to design and validate to meet application requirements, to assist in the coordination of product development to meet program timelines, and to support product launches and deliverables.

Responsibility Level:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the electrical and mechanical engineering activities required to develop a test lab environment capable of testing, validating and measuring key components of the energy storage system, including inverters, batteries, and controllers.  This includes working with vendors to assist in the integration of their components, developing requirements for supplier parts, insure design to compliance, and lead in the test and validation of final deliverables.

Primary Duties:

  • Develop and validate system architectures that meet commercial DES application needs
  • Develop and design a test plan that validates energy storage systems to key performance and safety benchmarks
  • Identify and recommend an automated test tool to achieve measurement targets
  • Perform troubleshooting tasks independently and recommend different methodologies to find a solution to the issue
  • Interface with vendors on periphery component selection to accurately and safely perform validation testing
  • Review, understand, update and design electrical schematic and wiring diagrams that document the lab test cells
  • Provide direction and create methodologies to test and validate supplier components, such as inverters and batteries
  • Create, implement and document complete tests plans as part of the development process
  • Provide analysis and test reports to senior engineers
  • May be responsible for shipping./receiving of materials, including hazardous materials
  • Assist in the development of a quality system by supporting APQP efforts to ensure the delivery of a quality product and /or process, which includes DFMEA, validation control plan, etc.
  • May have to assist other team members at customer site to install, integrate and troubleshoot high voltage battery systems
  • Provide input to DES system user manuals

Job Specifications /Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from accredited four-year college or university, or 8 years related work experience
  • Minimum 3 years related work experience or equivalent
  • Experience with Modbus communication protocol, either RTU or TCP/IP
  • Experience with vehicle Controlled Area Network (CAN) communication and development tools is desired
  • Experience with higher voltage DC battery systems
  • Experience with 480Vac 3-phase inverters/rectification is highly desired
  • Knowledgable of appropriate IEEE, IEC, UL, NEC, etc. standards
  • Experience with OSHA Laboratory Standard, Hazard Communication, Hazardous Waste Disposal, and DOT Shipping Regulation compliance is highly desirable
  • Forklift license required
  • NFPA 70E certified desired
  • Proficient in computer software, including, but not limited to, MS Office Suite, Minitab, Vector SW CAN Suite, National Instruments LabView, and MatLab
  • Solid communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
