Title: Virtual Systems Administrator

Location: Ft Belvoir, Va

Terms: Contract to Hire (Estimated 3 months)

Certifications: Sec+ to Starts, VMWare Certification.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide virtual environment system administration for all activities from design concept and engineering to implementing and managing a fully operational virtual-based DSMS system hardware/software/network environment. This includes:

  • Conducting system architecture engineering and development to migrate legacy systems into a new DSMS virtual computing environment, including development, test and integration, and production environments.  As required, engineer and implement interfaces to external systems, including Government and commercial Virtual environments, to provide additional user access paths and electronic data exchange ability
  • Conducting independent market research and performing engineering trade studies to identify and evaluate alternate technologies and products to meet new and evolving operational requirements, including mandated changes to architecture or security paradigm
  • Designing and building virtual environment service models including Infrastructure-as- a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service, and Software-as-a-Service
  • Advising software development teams on architecting and designing web interfaces that securely and efficiently interface with the virtual computing environment
  • Providing design, analysis, development, integration, documentation, testing, implementation, user support, and training for network / virtual environment
  • Ensuring redundant switch-over/fail-over capability exists and is operational when the primary virtual environment, network connectivity or local power is unavailable
  • Planning for, researching, and evaluating alternatives for periodic lifecycle replacement
  • Supporting system installations, problem solving and testing to ensure the availability, validity and reliability of the network / virtual environment
  • Actively supporting ongoing system Certification and Accreditation (C&A) activities
  • Working closely with Government/other contractors to ensure 24/7/365 connectivity to the network / virtual environment
  • Maintaining an accurate and current inventory of all virtual computing environment equipment, and periodically reconciling the physical inventory against records
  • Working with Government and commercial hardware/software/network vendors to maintain the virtual computing environment
  • Working closely with User Support to provide seamless support to all users for all virtual computing issues
  • When operational, ensuring the DIAMONDS virtual computing environment meets the Monthly Defense Readiness Reporting System (DRRS) availability rate (as of 15 Oct 2015 DRSS rate is 99.5%)
  • Maintaining data storage systems and balance data storage utilization. Resolve storage shortage issues and perform storage backups


Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements:


  • Proven ability to design, engineer, implement, operate, support and maintain classified and unclassified geographically distributed secure private system network environments, including all connected systems and peripherals
  • Proven ability to perform system modernization / lifecycle refresh of networked systems with little or no disruption to ongoing operations
  • Virtual environment architectural, analysis and planning skills
  • Technical-level system and software engineering proficiency for developing and fielding virtual environment-ready applications
  • Demonstrated experience working with EMC hardware, VMWare, Cisco UCE devices, VCE Vblock, VSphere
  • Certified as IAT Level II in accordance with DoD 8570.01-M, Information Assurance (IA) Workforce Improvement Program Manual
