Position Focus:
Reporting to the Manager of the Windows Services team, the Windows Tech Lead position provides technical leadership and Windows system administration for mission-critical services in an academic, research, and clinical environment. This position will work closely with fellow engineers, architects, support providers, and clients as the service-oriented systems engineering team operates and supports the infrastructure needs of Yale University. Using experience, creativity and self-motivation, manage the lifecycle of Windows systems at enterprise scale. Serve as a key contributor to an enterprise team responsible for Windows systems and the enterprise Active Directory. Prepare documentation (procedural, training, planning, informational), to support systems engineering. Work closely with technical owners of applications to securely plan, deploy, and troubleshoot new or upgraded functions. Provide performance tuning, capacity planning, monitoring, disaster recovery planning, and automation for systems and applications. Perform limited off-shift work and participate in rotating on-call coverage. Ensure performance, reliability, and security on Windows systems in a dynamic 24-7-365 production data center environment.

An ideal candidate will have experience with the planning and execution of Active Directory upgrades, feature enhancements, and security changes at enterprise scale is ideal. Experience with multi-site, multi-domain environments is a plus. Experience with mitigating legacy protocols and services is a plus.
Essential Duties
1. Develops functional and/or service goals that ensure conformity and uniformity with University policies within their assigned area of responsibility.
2. Oversees new and existing systems and services development to include modification of existing systems.
3. Evaluates user needs and implement systems and solutions to best service the community.
4. Consults with users and IT functions to diagnose and resolve complex problems.
5. Serves as a liaison between area of responsibility and other areas to ensure conformity with department and University goals.
6. Develops troubleshooting and problem resolution programs to ensure a high level of service and efficiency.
7. Influences and collaborates with clients and ITS functions to maximize the delivery of services and solutions.
8. May perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field and four to nine years of related technical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills
Deep and current knowledge and administration ability with all supported versions of Windows Server and Active Directory.
Expert fluency in PowerShell for automation and system administration.
Demonstrated skill at troubleshooting and resolving complex problems on Windows systems. Proven understanding of networking technologies. Ability to identify and mitigate security concerns. Demonstrated ability to work on complex projects both independently and as a lead.
Demonstrated analytical and creative problem-solving skills, an ability to develop and document complex procedures, and the ability to train others.
Proven and well-developed customer service skills. Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:
Experience with AD Services incl Azure AD, AD certificate services & group policy mgmt.; fluency in Windows server roles, especially IIS, DFS &KMS; file server migrations; IaaS cloud & local infrastructure platforms, Azure/AWS/VMware; enterprise monitoring, SCOM; configuration mgnt tools, SCCM; source control, git;ITIL Framework; experience working in a higher education environment.
